The Triangle economic development forum scheduled for 05/09/12 10am at the Marriott in downtown Raleigh features author and columnist Joel Kotkin. Economic development groups, which traditionally have focused on attracting companies to the region, are behind a new campaign that aims to recruit talented workers. The marketing campaign “Work in the Triangle. Smarter from any Angle.” blueprint was developed by Development Counsellors International, a New York firm focused on economic development marketing, which was paid $50,000 by Wake County Economic Development, the business recruiting arm of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. The research included dozens of interviews of local business leaders and a survey of Triangle workers that garnered about 450 responses. The campaign is looking to attract talent in three broad industry categories – life sciences, technology and cleantech – that reflect local corporate recruitment strategies. The external campaign is scheduled to begin in mid-June in Boston, where the talent attraction effort will sponsor a booth at an international biotechnology industry convention. The campaign also plans to take its road show to other cities, including San Francisco and Austin, TX. Read today’s newspaper at The Triangle’s got talent, but it wants more.
